Whitelaw Reid (1837-1912) was one of the USA' s foremost journalists and political figures. His grandfather emigrated from Ulster to the USA in the late 1700s. Reid ran as the Republican candidate for Vice President in 1892, alongside President Benjamin Harrison (Harrison was also of Ulster-Scots descent). "The Scot in America and the Ulster Scot'' was published during Reid's term as Ambassador to Britain from l905 -1912.
